Introducing ‘Southwest Environmental Alliance’ and its climate change work
In our latest round of grants, awarded on July 17, 2024, we awarded $31,870 to the Southwest Environmental Alliance (SEA) for their $49,870 Climate Change Challenges in South West Victoria Forum and associated activities.
SEA is a community of people who are working together to contribute to a sustainable, healthy, diverse environment for Portland and its surrounding districts. This community comprises a number of environmental groups and passionate individuals who care about their local environment.
The Alliance works to support regional biodiversity through advocacy, protection, restoration and improving the land health. The Alliance also works to support members by providing Natural Resource Management advice and funding through a Landcare Facilitator and Wildlife Habitat Fund. The Alliance prioritises supporting landholders and groups to identify suitable grants and conducting information sessions and training to support members’ environmental programs and projects.
The funded ‘Climate Change Challenges in South West Victoria Forum’ is an ambitious project aimed at engaging, educating, motivating and inspiring the local community towards climate action. The Forum will be held in Portland on Saturday 1 February, 2025 with keynote speaker Professor Tim Flannery and speakers from CSIRO and University of Melbourne, amongst others.
Working with the local community, the conference will identify feasible outcomes linked to the SEA strategic plan and community action plan.
